Dev Diary

I automate the boring parts. Want me to do yours?

Fair warning: this one is a little bit of a job application.

By day I work on the Microsoft Power Platform. Here's what that has looked like, and what I'd bring to a team that wants its systems to just work.

I rebuilt how people join and leave

I replaced our entire HR onboarding and offboarding systems with Power Apps and Power Automate. Onboarding is the first real thing a new hire experiences at a company. Offboarding is the last thing standing between someone who has left and the systems they shouldn't be able to open anymore. Both have to work every single time, for people who will never once think about the app behind them.

Good automation is invisible. Nobody thanks the onboarding flow. They just have a working login on day one.

One project became twenty

That project turned into a habit. I now look after a portfolio of more than 20 Power Platform solutions. Twenty-plus apps and flows is twenty-plus things that can quietly break when something upstream changes, so keeping them healthy is a job in itself.

The ALM riddle

The part I'm proudest of is the least visible. ALM, short for application lifecycle management, is how a solution travels from someone's dev environment into production without breaking anything on the way. It's fiddly work, and it's easy to get wrong.

I solved it with agents. AI agents now build the solutions and push them through the pipeline. I review and approve every release before it reaches production. The agents do the legwork, and a person still decides what goes live.

It's the same rule I use after hours, where two AI coworkers help run my side project and can't post a thing without my tap. Let the machines carry the work. Keep the go-live decision with a human.

What I'd bring

I care whether something is right before I care whether it's shiny. I put the important rules where they can't be forgotten. I'd rather read the logs than guess. And I write docs in plain words, because the next person reading them is usually me at midnight.

So, quietly: I'm open to new roles. Power Platform and Microsoft solutions architecture, AI development and automation, ideally somewhere those two meet. I'm based in Phoenix and happy to work remote. If that sounds like your team, my inbox is [email protected]. I check it more often than I'd like to admit.
